I started dancing in the summer of 2001 just before my 41st birthday (better start while I still could, I thought!)  Very soon afterward, I discovered Tribal Style and knew right away that it was for me.  I loved the sense of strength and sisterhood, as well as the costuming, and was intrigued by the idea of group improvisation.  As soon as I found an instructor I got into it and never looked back.  It’s been physically challenging but very worthwhile!   As jewelry designer and artist, I love putting together the costumes, and I’ve been collecting ethnographic jewelry for years.  When our troupe was forming, I came up with our name “The Rogue Bindis”.  When I kept finding bindis (decorative stickers)  in random places after dancing—stuck in the folds of skirts, on bags,

in hair-I started calling them rogue bindis, and it seemed like the perfect name for the random, loosely-connected way our troupe turn up at various locations around Albuquerque to perform our special blend of dance.
